The Organization Queen – Since Childhood
My oldest daughter is the epitome of organized. And let me tell you, she did not get that from me—just ask my husband! 🤭 Honestly, she can teach an entire course on organization. Every time she visits, my house somehow ends up looking like a brand-new place by the time she leaves. This year, she suggested we start a Family New Years Tradition to keep everything organized throughout the year.
Her knack for organization isn’t new, though. I still remember when she was 3 or 4, absolutely thrilled with this little cleaning set we got her. It wasn’t just a toy for her—it was the beginning of her love for tidiness and structure.
As the oldest child, she often had to help out more than most kids her age. I was a single parent at the time. (Sorry about that, babe… but that’s a topic for another day.)
The Bingo Card Tradition – How It All Started
This year, she’s the reason I decided to start this blog. It all began on New Year’s Eve. She gathered the entire family to make bingo cards. This was an idea she found on Pinterest. (We take no credit for the creativity! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/1052505375418835765/) and turned it into our Family New Years Tradition.
At first, everyone groaned, rolling their eyes at yet another one of her Pinterest-inspired plans. We all went along with it. We filled out the bingo cards with goals, dreams, and resolutions for the new year.
To my surprise, it was fun. We even left a few blank spaces to fill in later. This gave it an open-ended, anything-can-happen vibe. It made it a special Family New Years Tradition.
How the Bingo Cards Work
For those unfamiliar with the concept, bingo cards are typically used in games. In our case, we adapted them as a creative way to set and track our New Year’s goals. Each family member writes their own goals, dreams, or habits they want to work on in the new year. If they finish a row, column, or diagonal, they get a fun reward. It’s a playful way to stay motivated and accountable!
Why the Bingo Cards Matter
Now, I have no idea what happens if one of us actually hits bingo. I guess my daughter will decide since this whole thing was her brainchild. But she even hung the cards on the fridge as a constant reminder of what we set out to achieve. It has truly become a cherished tradition in our family.
The bingo cards have become a small but meaningful way for us to: ✅ Stay connected as a family ✅ Think about our goals throughout the year ✅ Hold ourselves accountable in a fun, low-pressure way
A Personal Reflection
Looking back, I realize that traditions like these are what make family bonds stronger. They create moments of laughter, reflection, and sometimes, a little friendly competition. My daughter’s love for organization has not only improved our home but also deepened our family’s connection. Watching her take the lead on something so meaningful has been a proud mom moment for me.
