Shower Epiphanies & Jeans That Fit: The Soul-Lifting Magic of Small Wins

It’s Been a Rough Month, but Small Wins Count

Let me just say, it’s been a rough month at work. I took a couple of days off to regroup and focus on the small wins in life. Yup, in your forties, you say things like “regroup,” “that’s fair,” and “I’m being vulnerable.” Never in my twenties would I have said any of those things. But here we are.

The Rare Shower Moment Every Busy Mom Craves

Anyway, a day off is never really a day off for us moms, is it? You’re exhausted by the time you’ve done your mom job. Carting everyone around and keeping the household afloat. Then it’s time to do it all over again. If you’re not a mom, you still know the drill. Life doesn’t stop just because you took the day off.

I ran errands and picked up after everyone. After checking my to-do list, I found myself with an hour—an actual hour—before everyone got home. What did I decide to do with this golden opportunity? Take a shower.

Yes, us moms have simple dreams: going to the bathroom in peace or taking a 20-minute shower without interruptions. Imagine that! A long, hot shower. I was pumped.

I turned on my Bluetooth speaker, blasted some high school music (hello, nostalgia), and stepped into the shower. Seconds in, my brain did what it does best—it started spiraling:

  • What emails are piling up at work?
  • What’s for dinner?
  • What time is my daughter’s activity tonight?

You get the idea. I almost stopped right there, but then I took a deep breath and said, “You know what? Fuuuuuck it.”

And for the first time in a long time, I let myself enjoy it. Not for 20 minutes, but a solid extra five minutes. It felt like luxury. Sometimes, appreciating these small wins in life makes a big difference.

A Small Mom Victory: Fitting Into My Husband’s Jeans

Feeling refreshed, I threw on a pair of jeans. That’s when I noticed something. I didn’t have to do the dance. You know, the one where you hop, wiggle, and maybe lie down to zip them up.

Intrigued, I looked in the mirror, did the classic turn-and-check-your-butt move, and thought, Wow, these jeans fit great! Then it hit me—they weren’t even my jeans. They were my husband’s!

At first, I freaked out. But then I realized…wait a second. My husband’s jeans fit me? My husband has lost weight over the years, and his jeans are smaller than mine now. And guess what? I didn’t care. I started doing the happy jean dance. You know, the one where you bounce around. You stare at yourself and celebrate like it’s the early 2000s again.

Small Goals, Big Difference

Here’s the thing. I’ve kept my goals small this year. Really small.

  • Drink more water.
  • Get more steps in.

That’s it. Nothing extreme, nothing overwhelming. And while I know it’s probably just some water weight, who cares? My husband’s jeans fit me.

It reminded me of this truth: Small changes can lead to big results. They add up, and before you know it, you’re celebrating tiny wins that feel huge. These small wins in life keep me motivated.

Final Thoughts: What’s Your Small Win?

Now I’ve got my eye on a walking pad. (Mom life hack: multitasking while walking sounds amazing.) Do you have one? If so, let me know the best ones out there.

And while we’re at it, what small wins have you celebrated lately? It doesn’t have to be about jeans or weight loss—it can be anything. Let’s cheer each other on because small victories in life deserve big celebrations.

“Big victories are made of small, consistent steps.”

Take your shower. Drink your water. Wear the jeans. And don’t forget to do your own happy dance when the moment calls for it.
